Boxing and strength communities in Birmingham: where to start
Compare women-first boxing, private padwork and coached strength in Birmingham and the wider area, with clear locations and first-session entry routes.
You want to try boxing, but booking the first session leaves a few things unresolved. Will someone teach you the stance? Do you need your own gloves? And does the class involve another person throwing punches back?
A strength class raises a different question: how much of the hour will be spent learning to lift, and how much will be conditioning?
These Birmingham boxing and strength communities give you three different starting points: a women-focused boxing club, private women’s coaching in the wider Birmingham/Solihull area, and a Digbeth strength-and-conditioning gym. Choose around the instruction and setting you want, then confirm the first-session arrangements directly.
For football, running, climbing and other activities, start with our broader Birmingham sports-community guide.
Choose what you want to learn first
If boxing technique is the attraction, ask about time spent on footwork, pads and coached practice. Anyone who wants to avoid contact should get an explicit answer about partner drills and sparring before booking.
For strength, decide whether you want barbell instruction or a class that combines lifting with conditioning. A beginner introduction gives you a place to ask how movements are taught and adapted before committing to recurring sessions.
| Starting point | Organisation | Location | First step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women-focused group boxing | WBC Women’s Boxing Club | Community Aero Kick, Bissell Street, Highgate | Contact the club to confirm its current group session and newcomer arrangements |
| Private women’s boxing coaching, alone or with a partner | She Hits Different | B37 7UU, wider Birmingham/Solihull area | Choose a coaching format and confirm a scheduled booking |
| Coached lifting and strength-and-conditioning classes | CrossFit Digbeth | Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth | Enquire about the taster and foundation route, specifying your lifting experience |
Once you have chosen a session, give it a real place in your schedule. On Form Club can build personalised training around existing classes, clubs and gym commitments in focused 14-day blocks.

WBC Women’s Boxing Club: enquire about a group introduction
WBC Women’s Boxing Club was established to get women involved in boxing and fitness. Its official contact page places it at Community Aero Kick Gym on Bissell Street, Highgate, Birmingham B5 7HP.
The classes page lists group sessions and one-to-one training arranged by contacting the club. That gives you a choice between joining a group and asking for individual instruction first.
For a newcomer, the next step is a short enquiry: “I’m new to boxing and interested in your women’s group. Which session should I book, what equipment do I need, and is there any contact work?”
The public timetable does not show a recent update date. Confirm the next session before travelling, along with the age requirements, eligibility and booking process. The club’s women-focused description alone does not settle every inclusion rule.
This route starts with a conversation about joining an existing boxing group. If arriving without knowing anyone feels like the main hurdle, our beginner’s guide to joining a sports club helps you prepare for that first visit.
She Hits Different: choose the amount of individual coaching
She Hits Different describes a female-only setting and offers scheduled classes and private coaching. Its published venue is inside Sarah Jayne Fitness at Unit 14, Croft Industrial Estate, Dunster Road, B37 7UU. Treat this as a wider Birmingham/Solihull-area option when planning the journey, rather than a city-centre gym.
The private coaching menu separates adult one-to-one padwork from a longer boxing-and-conditioning session. It also lists two-person boxing-and-conditioning coaching, giving you a route to book with a training partner.
That distinction helps if you already know how you want to start. Someone seeking focused time on the pads can ask about the shorter format; a pair of friends can enquire about learning together. Private coaching has a different social commitment from joining a recurring club class, so choose accordingly.
The venue opens for scheduled sessions rather than general walk-in training. Confirm the appointment, equipment arrangements and suitability for your experience through the provider before setting off. For any eligibility question beyond its published female-only description, ask directly.
CrossFit Digbeth: specify whether you want lifting or conditioning
CrossFit Digbeth welcomes all levels and advertises CrossFit, Hyrox and weightlifting. Its contact page gives the address as The Garage, 140 Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth, Birmingham B9 4AR.
The membership page lists foundation classes, a taster route subject to timetable availability, Olympic lifting and other class formats, plus one-to-one coaching. It is a general-access strength-and-conditioning option; the cited pages do not describe a women-only session.
Tell the team what you want to learn. “I have never lifted a barbell and want coaching on the basics” is a clearer starting point than asking for the hardest workout. If Olympic lifting interests you, confirm the introduction required for that specific class. For a conditioning-led session, ask how the coach adapts movements for first-timers.
Check the current taster booking and which class it covers. The presence of several formats on one membership page does not establish that a single introductory booking includes all of them.
Send one enquiry before committing to a fortnight
Pick the route that resolves your biggest uncertainty, then send the organiser enough detail to direct you: your experience, preferred format and any access needs. Request the exact venue, current cost, equipment requirements and cancellation terms for that booking.
For boxing, include a direct question about contact. Ask a strength coach how much instruction a first-timer receives and whether an induction comes before the main class. These answers tell you more about your first hour than a long list of equipment.
After attending, note what the session actually involved. A padwork lesson, a boxing-conditioning hour and a coached lifting class place different demands on the rest of your training. Use our boxing and strength planning guide if you are combining both, or the classes, clubs and gym planning guide for a fuller calendar.
On Form Club can keep your chosen coached session alongside the rest of your training, with personalised 14-day planning that can reorganise as plans change.
Put the coached session, gym work and recovery on one calendar.
